Our number one priority is the health and safety of our members, and we have been keeping that at the forefront of all our decision-making.
We have known for quite some time that it is not safe for VYC to meet in person, each week, indoors, with our regular numbers, in our regular venue. We also have learned that “online choir” doesn’t replace what we love about our VYC community. We love being together, the relationships and community that we build, and the spontaneous artistry and connection that happens when we are together in the room. Much of this results from raising our voices together, which we all know is not yet possible on zoom. For this reason, we are not planning on having choir rehearsals online.
However, the zoom format does lend itself VERY well to group masterclasses with guest artists, and there are RICH possibilities here for learning and growth. As well, recent data, and published studies have shown that, while there is no such thing as zero risk with COVID 19, singing outdoors is a safer and viable possibility.
Our plan for the fall is based on a hybrid model of BOTH online “special guest” workshops and in-person, small-group, outdoor rehearsals. Our upcoming guest artists range from local superstars Dawn Pemberton and Ashleigh Ball, to international artists Rajaton, the University of Pretoria Youth Choir, and Jacob Collier. VYC singers will work with people from all over the world, with the goal to expand our own world, and improve our craft. We are very excited about what is in store for this season, and we hope you are too.
