VYC Voices

VYC VOICES is the Vancouver Youth Choir’s newest choir. Open to singers grade 11 to age 24, this choir is perfect for people who are looking to sing with joy and artistry in a choir with limited time commitment requirements.

For singers who

“In VYC, I have learned that being a leader doesn't mean someone is better than someone else. It is about striving to help everyone reach their potential, and together exceeding what we thought possible.”
Niki
VYC Voices
VYC VOICES launched in fall 2019, and quickly became a close-knit and very social group of singers! Their very first performance was December 2019 at the Chan Centre, and their irrepressible joy, passionate singing was the talk of the show. Unfortunately, COVID 19 forced VOICES to cancel their spring tour plans, but it has not put a stop to this enthusiastic group!
NOTE

VYC VOICES does not require previous experience, however, we are aiming to have a balanced choir (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass). For that reason, all interested singers are asked to participate in a placement interview.

2020-2021 Season

As a result of COVID 19, our program this season is based on a hybrid model of both online “special guest” workshops and in-person, small-group, outdoor rehearsals. Our guest guest artists range from local superstars Dawn Pemberton and Ashleigh Ball, to artists from across the country and around the world. VOICES singers will work with people from all over the world, with the goal to expand our own world, and to improve our craft. At our in-person rehearsals, VOICES will work towards a recording session for a video concert in December and May.

Rehearsals & Schedule

VYC VOICES “in-person” sessions will take place on Tuesday evenings at UBC in the Thunderbird parkade.

Safety Protocols

It is important to note that there is no such thing as zero risk – even before COVID. Even though we are outdoors, HOW we run our in-person rehearsals is essential to our singers’ safety. We have strict policies and protocols around social distancing, hand sanitizing, entry and exits etc, as well as health checks at the door. All families are asked to read and sign our COVID 19 policy document, and agree to following all the protocol outlined in order to participate in the choir.
